Challenge 60 - 2017 Color of the Year - GREENERY

Art Quilt Challenge Group                            December 10th, 2016 /due January 9th, 2017

January meeting at Alfalfa’s Boulder Community Room

Challenge 60              COLOR OF THE YEAR  The Pantone 2017 Color of the year is Greenery!

***Use Greenery and one or more of the underlined descriptors/concepts from the press releases below to create a small art quilt (or anything else you want to create) or use one of the Greenery color ***

A refreshing and revitalizing shade, Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings.

Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.

Greenery is nature’s neutral. The more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world. This shift is reflected by the proliferation of all things expressive of Greenery in daily lives through urban planning, architecture, lifestyle and design choices globally. A constant on the periphery, Greenery is now being pulled to the forefront - it is an omnipresent hue around the world.

A life-affirming shade, Greenery is also emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.

Greenery offers us self-assurance and boldness to live life on our own terms, during a time when we are redefining what makes us successful and happy.

This is the color of hopefulness, and of our connection to nature. It speaks to what we call the ‘re’ words: regenerate, refresh, revitalize, renew. Every spring we enter a new cycle and new shoots come from the ground. It is something life affirming to look forward to.

Challenge 58 - Foiling - Presented by Colleen H

Art Quilt Challenge Group                         October 8, 2016/due November 12, 2016

Challenge 58  Foiled Again

Applying foil to fabric is a great way to add sparkle and shine to your quilt designs. We are talking about foil that is specially designed for this purpose--not ordinary aluminum foil that you use in the kitchen! To apply the foil you must first apply an adhesive to your fabric, then fuse the foil to the adhesive.

A packet will be given out with some sample foil, adhesives and instructions. Use these in your project or feel free to try something else. Have fun!

Art quilt examples

Liquid glue applied to a rubbing plate that you use as a stamp

Liquid glue drawing using a toothpick or small brush

Scatter loose pieces of fusible thread onto the fabric

Fusible thread sewn to fabric

Double stick tape or bonding squares

Misty Fuse shards on Lutradur or Extravorganza
