Challenge #34 Redirecting the Ordinary
Oct 12th / due Nov 9th (at Lyons Quilting)
Choose something you see all the time but don't notice, interpret it in cloth
If you are a SAQA member, this comes from their call for entries for a show to be exhibited in Houston in 2014. (The deadline for entries is Feb 28, 2014. There are minimum and maximum size requirements for that exhibit, so check SAQA website for more information)
"We live in an environment we take for granted. We often miss the essential and forget that we can make the routine so much more vibrant and interesting. Turning things around, upside down, inside out, backwards or maybe even just a minuscule course correction can charge up the humdrum, turn the common into the uncommon, and make the expected unexpected.
For example, look around your studio, home or neighborhood to pick out an object (a paintbrush, fork, tree branch, or chair) or a phenomenon (light hitting a doorknob, raindrops streaming down a window…). Choose something you see all the time but don't notice and make it special. Interpret the object or phenomenon in cloth to bring attention and significance to the ordinary."
